SMART START™ PHILOSOPHY
Every child should have access to high-quality music education, from the earliest age possible. The RCM’s extensive work with neuroscientists has shown that music training, in the stages of early childhood, is linked to an improvement in cognitive function. Using this insight, the Smart Start™ program was created to nurture the core developmental traits of reading, memory, and IQ through music education. Thus, making music the cornerstone for continued lifelong achievement.
WHAT IS SMART START™?
Smart Start™ is an Early Childhood Music Education curriculum designed to awaken a curiosity for music in children, ages 0-4. This group curriculum was developed by The Royal Conservatory (RCM), in collaboration with neuroscientists, and RCM’s most accomplished music educators. This umbrella of experts combines 60 years of thought leadership in music education, with science-backed research to deliver the rich, developmental benefits, to all children, in their earliest possible stages of learning.
Smart Start™ teaches children how to learn. Through playful, familiar activities like singing, listening, movement, stories, games, and music making with age-appropriate instruments, children develop important cognitive skills. Songs and activities are carefully chosen to match each age group’s specific developmental needs.
Smart Start™ builds on the inherent link between music and the mind to help prepare children for success in literacy, mathematics, and other academic pursuits.
The Smart Start™ Program combines music, movement, and play to enhance early childhood development. It offers play-based classes filled with diverse songs and activities in multiple languages, all supported by extensive neuroscience research from the RCM Neuroscience Centre, dedicated to exploring the connection between music and the mind.
